Responsibilities PRIMARY PURPOSE Contributes to internal and external development efforts of models and sub-models within the Regional Transportation Modelling (RTM) system, providing technical expertise to projects related to transportation policy and forecasting, in an integrated, multi-modal environment. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES • Assists in the development of the Regional Transportation Model (RTM) system to evaluate transportation demand and system performance. • Analyzes the results from the model to establish and summarize technical findings. Applies the findings to produce transportation reports / forecasts supporting decision making in transportation planning and strategic business decisions. • Supports application efforts of the regional transportation model to support decision making towards transportation planning, strategic plans, policies, and project development initiatives. • Identifies planning risks and opportunities based on analysis of transport data, trends, and issues. Alerts Senior Transportation Planner and Manager to critical issues. • Participates in collaborative information sharing, problem solving and decision-making with other planning staff across the division. Develops technical reports and delivers presentations for both internal and external stakeholders. • Establishes and maintains working relationships with counterparts in business units across the enterprise, as well as external stakeholders and consultants to understand client needs from the models and communicate model requirements, capabilities and results. • Provides technical support and advice to municipal/provincial working teams and advisory committees. Provides technical guidance to junior planning staff where applicable. Qualifications EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE The requirements for this job are acquired through completion of a Master’s degree in a related discipline with strong emphasis on quantitative research, forecasting and other transportation analytics methods, plus three (3) years of experience developing and applying regional transportation models in either the private or public sectors. OTHER REQUIREMENTS • Strong working knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, methods, standards and techniques pertaining to transportation modeling, forecasting, analysis, and statistics. • Solid analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills including the ability to identify and communicate transportation planning risks and opportunities in an integrated, multi-disciplinary environment; includes skills to analyze transport data, trends and issues • Good working knowledge in the use of computerized packages such as EMME, TransCAD, VISUM, STATA, A-logit and R as well as experience in programming in Python. • Solid written and verbal communication skills to be able to deliver presentations and write memos and reports • Solid interpersonal skills including the ability to build trust by consulting with others and applying a team approach as needed to achieve solutions. Other Information The position will benefit from advanced coding capabilities in Python, R, SQL and/or other languages. In addition, advanced knowledge and experience in estimation of discrete choice, regression and time-series econometric models would be desirable. Work Schedule 37.5 hours per week. Rate of Pay Salary: $68,564 – $85,705 per annum.
