The Production Manager is primarily responsible for the supervision, coordination, and effective scheduling of receiving ingredients and dry blending. Reporting into the Production Manager are production supervisors, team leaders, and employees to meet production targets and quality standards set forth by the Company. The Production Manager will also be responsible for the coordination of the extrusion and packaging departments. This will cover both 1st and 2nd shift, with time spent on each. Through the effective management of targets, goals and production efficiencies, this position will ensure the ongoing success of the timely production of our premium kibble products, ORIJEN and ACANA. Reporting to the Director, Canadian Operations, the Production Manager will work out of our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in Acheson, AB. Responsibilities * Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of the Receiving, Fresh & Dry Blending, Extrusion and Packaging departments of the Kitchen (facility). * Support the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program, by ensuring personnel are knowledgeable in the recognition, prevention, and alleviation of food safety hazards. * Prepare a range of reports and effective budgeting for the department. * Develop and implement plans to efficiently use materials, labour, and equipment to meet production targets in a safe and positive manner. * Develop, execute, and supervise training programs for new employees in the operation of equipment, along with motorized vehicles, and production techniques. * Training of employees for sensory evaluation and timely completion of ingredient testing of incoming fresh and dry ingredients. Work in collaboration with the Purchasing department for timely delivery of ingredients. * Participate in the development of the production schedules and maintain an inventory of raw materials and finished products. * Support the SQF Program by developing and implementing department specific SOP’s that align with the program and participate on the Champion HACCP team * Consistently ensure that all recipes manufactured are being produced according to the established formula specifications and quality assurance standards while maintaining high productivity levels. * Ensure GMP and Food Safety paperwork requirements are completed accurately. * Develop awareness and understanding of corporate policies, practices, and procedures related to health and safety and to the environment and commit to personal compliance with same. * Perform other duties, as required or assigned. Requirements * Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or equivalent industry related experience. * Minimum 8 years of supervisory experience in production is required, with proven abilities to motivate, train, appraise and other related supervisory skills. * A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid conflict resolution, exceptionally demonstrated interpersonal and people management skills. * Demonstrated awareness and role modeling of occupational health and safety standards. * Strong oral and written communication skills. * Strong computer skills. * Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and interpretive skills, experience with ERP systems considered an asset. * Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and stakeholders. * Able to work efficiently as a part of a team and independently. * Willing and able to accommodate a flexible work schedule, ensuring coverage of 1st and 2nd shift when needed. * Willing and able to work within the parameters of the production environment with exposure to dust, noise, odors, and fluctuating temperatures.
