About the position

We are looking for an EHS Management System Associate Director to join our team and lead the development, implementation, and improvement of our global environmental, health, and safety (EHS) management system. You will ensure that our EHS policies, standards, and procedures are aligned with the regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Carrier’s vision and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and program consultation in the interpretation and application of safety programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Recommends, develops and/or revises and implements changes to policies, procedures and programs.

  • Analyze future training needs for EHS function and others across the organization.

  • Serve as a coach and mentor EHS function on how to effectively implement our EH&S Management System regionally or at the frontline.

  • Monitor their effectiveness of EHS programs, training, and procedures within the organization.

  • Offers expertise and assistance to the Regional EHS teams.

  • Serve as a member of the Global EHS Center of Excellence team ensuring that the organization has consistent alignment with other subject matters experts.

  • Ensure that our incident investigation processes are robust, utilizing system tools and develop training to build the skills needed to preform effective root cause analysis.

  • Provides functional leadership with new or updated information, resources, and training to ensure jobs are done thoroughly and with maximum safety precautions.

  • Develops and updates safety and training programs on an ongoing basis, staying current on applicable laws and working to minimize accidents/incidents.

  • Provide assistance with the implementation and compliance with corporate EHS procedures and programs.

  • Support others on the functional team with the reporting of safety statistics for the company, the completion of and/or the vendor prequalification safety information provided to customers, response to customer inquiries regarding the safety prequalification, and safety statistic reporting.

  • Assist with the administration of local, state and federal laws and regulations where necessary.

  • Stay abreast of emerging regulatory initiatives and potential impact on company.

  • Participate in yearly planning activities for the department, determining the key performance indicators for the function to evaluate progress and determine goals for the company’s safety management system.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • 10+ years professional experience in the EHS field.

  • 5+ years working with global corporations and a multicultural environment.

  • 3+ years experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001.

  • Traveling is required up to 30% (domestic and international).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Safety Engineering.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing, service, construction, and project processes.

  • Experience in communicating with external parties, including local government agencies.

  • Ability to work independently and interact with employees at all levels, as well as senior management.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing EHS systems and processes across a global organization with both manufacturing and services activities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to lead through influence, and networking.

  • Ability to work in a matrix environment, creating partnerships at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to impact and effect change with a flexible, open-minded, positive approach.

  • Proven strategic planning, leadership, and project management capabilities.

  • Proven ability to identify trends and implement best practices in a manner that ensures exceptional performance and results.
