What will you do?

Siemens Canada seeks a motivated individual who is well-versed in Canadian Occupational Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation legislation and demonstrates a keen interest in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) topics. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting all facets of Siemens’ Environment Health and Safety (EHS) program, ensuring alignment with applicable regulations across Canada and adhering to Siemens’ internal requirements.

Siemens Canada offers a unique opportunity to be part of the SCETA five-month training program from May 01, 2024, to Sept 27, 2024, intending to have you join Siemens upon completion should everything align. The goal is to accelerate skills development for an immediate professional impact. This opportunity involves working within the EHS department, collaborating across corporate and business levels to contribute to executing EHS initiatives. The program includes one month of mandatory SCETA orientation in May, where you will receive business acumen training and learn about all things Siemens.

What will you do?

  • Support maintenance of EHS programs to meet Siemens’ Certificate of Recognition (COR), ISO 14000 and ISO 45001 standards, and mandated customer/project requirements.

  • Support the maintenance of prequalification databases to ensure compliance with customer requirements.

  • Assist in the preparation and information management of EHS reports, written programs, procedures, and other related documents.

  • Support implementation, evaluation, and assessments of new EHS programs/tools to meet company objectives.

  • Monitor and support various aspects of new initiatives in the EHS program.

  • Support the business in developing and implementing effective Project Safety Plans, including job safety analysis, safe work practices, hazard/risk assessments and incident investigation.

  • Continuously support improvement of the Health, Safety, and Environment programs by updating hazard assessments, identifying aspects/impacts, JSAs, and safe work policies and procedures in collaboration with the Business.

  • Support safety training program: monitor, assign and track EHS training for all employees.

  • Support the supplier prequalification process.

  • Assist senior location managers in compliance with their role requirements related to EHS.

  • Support incident investigation for injuries or near misses to identify root causes, trends, and prevention strategies and report findings and lessons learned in Siemens’ tools.

  • Liaise with the EHS Team and provide support on ongoing projects.

  • Conduct site safety inspection as required.

What will you need to succeed?

  • 3.0 overall GPA

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of COR and EHS Management Systems, including ISO 45001 and 14001.

  • Working towards COR Auditor Certification.

  • Working towards Safety professional designation or certification (e.g., NCSO).

  • Knowledge of Canadian occupational health and safety legislation, workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs.

  • Candidates must have excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written), customer focus, and agility.

  • Knowledge in ergonomics, root cause and hazard analysis, risk assessment, safe work practice or job safety analysis development, and incident investigation.

  • Ability to analyze and evaluate options and solutions and exercise judgment in making sound decisions.

  • Advanced skills in Office 365, Power Apps, SharePoint, Teams and other digital tools.

  • The successful candidate for this position must be bilingual. Fluency in French and English (verbal and written) is required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position for the following reason(s): The role requires interacting with English and French-speaking customers and suppliers across Canada and/or internationally and regular interactions with Siemens colleagues based outside of Quebec, nationally and globally.
