Job Description:Company Description Who We AreFounded and chaired by Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore, The Climate Reality Project is dedicated to catalyzing a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every level of society. The organization has branches in 11 countries, including Canada, and over 31,000 volunteer Climate Reality Leaders. Over 1,400 of those Climate Reality Leaders (CRLs) are located in Canada. The Canadian organization was established in Montreal in 2007 as a charitable organization, and has its own initiatives tailored to the Canadian context. We believe education is the key to the success of the climate movement. By spreading knowledge pertaining to climate science and by teaching citizens how to be effective communicators on the topic, we are empowering people to become impactful catalysts for change in their communities. One of our key programs is the Leadership Corps Program (, whereby selected advocates and influencers from all backgrounds in over 100 countries are trained by Vice President Gore himself to mobilize communities for climate action. These trainings feature a wide array of experts who inspire participants and teach them about: the science of climate change, the solutions available, powerful storytelling and public speaking techniques, media engagement strategies, best practices in grassroots organizing, networking approaches, and how activists can build momentum in their communities. As a prerequisite to participation in a training, CRLs commit to performing at least 10 Acts of Leadership (AOLs): activities that educate, drive action, and support solutions to climate change, for example: meeting with an influencer, giving a presentation, organizing an event, mentoring a peer, publishing a blog post or news article, and appearing in the media. A cornerstone of these AOLs giving presentations on the climate and solutions to climate change: we see peer to peer education as a key tactic to fostering grassroots action. Over 1400 trained Climate Reality Leaders are currently educating their communities, inspiring their fellow citizens for change, and pushing for greater climate justice and sounder policies across the country. Organized under 11 Lead Mentors who offer on-the-grounds support and regional networking opportunities, these climate advocates have access to a wide array of tools, projects and programs developed by CRP (headquarters, in the USA) and CRPC to foster impactful climate action and prolonged engagement. Job Description What We’re Looking For The Climate Reality Project Canada is looking for a Data Mapping Consultant who will help deepen our understanding of CRLs’ demographics, concerns, and interests. Your mandate will allow us to build long-term advocacy capacity by executing data-intensive programs and by creating and leveraging analytical insights. A similar, albeit rudimentary, study was performed in 2020 by a group of students, and the Data Mapping Consultant will be tasked with evaluating the quality, depth and pertinence of this study, and thereafter either building on the existing work, or creating a new analysis altogether. Ultimately, the final report will serve to help us build programs that are tailored to our volunteer base and that will maximize engagement in terms of quantity and impact of AOLs. The data will also serve to help improve our tracking of AOLs, and help us improve retention and prolonged engagement of CRLs, and to re-engage inactive CRLs. Who You Are You are passionate about the mission of the Climate Reality Project to empower citizens from all paths of life and grassroots movements through a decentralised engagement model, and you are familiar with the mechanisms of citizen engagement and multi-stakeholder convening. You have significant experience in data management and analysis. Above all, you love to work with data, you think strategically, and are able to create reusable patterns and maintainable frameworks. You have a wide range of skills, both interpersonal and technical, as well as a solid foundation across the complete spectrum of data and reporting technologies and best practices. You are resourceful, highly organized, and enjoy taking action and ownership of mandates that are attributed to you. Though you are a strong team player, you work well autonomously, and thanks to your results-oriented thought, you have a proclivity for problem-solving, for thinking on your feet, and for working with robust deadlines. As a temporary yet critical member of a small team, this position will give the right candidate a chance to learn and grow while making a tangible difference both on how the organization does its work, and on the broader impact of the climate movement. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Over the course of a three-month mandate, the Data Mapping Consultant will collect the necessary data, which includes developing and conducting a survey among our CRLS and Lead Mentos, and requesting any necessary existing reports to the Community Engagement and Program Development Manager, who will be able to extract them from our Salesforce database. The Consultant will then analyze this information so as to identify the needs and contexts of the various regions of Canada, with a particular emphasis on the regions CRPC seeks to deepen its presence in: Eastern Canada, Northern Canada, the Prairies, and Québec (outside of Montreal). The final result will be a visualization of trends found across the Leadership Corps, using a program to be chosen by the Consultant and that will be usable, manageable and upgradeable by CRPC in perpetuity. The mandate will end with the writing of a report in which the Data Mapping Consultant’s analysis, conclusions and recommendations structured around a calendar implementation will be presented.
