Job Description:We are in need of permanent, full-time TRUCK DRIVERS (Class 1) to operate tractor-trailer combinations or tandem axle trucks within the city. Combos include flat-deck, dry van, end dump, roll-offs, and B-Trains. Tandems include load-lugger and roll-off work. Drivers will be required to strap or chain down loads. Class 1 driver’s license and clean drivers’ abstract are required. Our truck drivers work in the (non-smoking) cab of the truck while driving and outside when needed to load or unload. They can encounter all kinds of road, weather, and traffic conditions. Truck drivers generally work without direct supervision. Home at night, with the exception of some outside city trips on occasions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Cargo handling and securing loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, and compliance with applicable Acts and regulationsPerform pre-trip inspections on equipmentReport vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.Perform periodic inspections and clean-up before, during and after delivery to ensure that load is properly securedComply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver’s hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods and weights and dimensionsCommunicate effectively with the public, customers, and co-workers both verbally and in written formDeliver load and proper paperwork to our customers in a courteous and timely mannerMaintain trucks (i.e. greasing, washing) overall service and perform required inspectionsOther duties as assigned by supervisor QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:Class 1 driver’s license and a good driving recordMinimum of 2 years’ relevant experienceStrong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform routine vehicle maintenanceDemonstrate good oral and written English communication abilitiesExceptional organizational abilities with strong time management skillsMust be able to lift up to a maximum of 100 lbs from time to timeA positive attitude and ability to provide excellent customer serviceHigh level of personal integrityStrong work ethic and ability to follow directionsProfessional/mature demeanor under stressful situations in a fast-paced environmentMust be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directedAbility to work both independently and as part of a teamCertificate/training on transportation of dangerous goods would be an advantageCertification from a recognized Truck Driving School is an asset but not a MUST WORK CONDITIONS & ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Work location: 550 Messier St.Working hours: MON to FRI, 8:00 – 4:30, some overtime & weekend as requiredHome at night, with the exception of some outside city trips if assignedPermanent full-time position with competitive wages and benefitsWill be required to work outdoors in all weather conditionsLifting, climbing, and occasional crawling involvedStrictly Non-smoking cabsThis position may be subject to a criminal record check How to Apply: Send your resume and cover letter clearly stating your qualifications to apply via email or in-person at 550 Messier St. We welcome applications from all interested individuals; however, only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.Company Description:We are a Winnipeg-based metal recycler that serves clients of all sizes in Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.
