Calgary Animal Referral & Emergency Centre is welcoming an experienced Registered Veterinary Technologist to join the Dentistry & Oral Surgery Service at the CARE Centre. The successful candidate will be an integral part of delivering gold-standard specialist care to our patients, clients and referring doctors.

The C.A.R.E. Centre is a tertiary care referral hospital, with board certified specialists in a wide range of referral services including: internal medicine, surgery, radiology, oncology, ophthalmology, neurology, critical care, cardiology, dermatology, emergency and dentistry/oral surgery. The C.A.R.E Centre is committed to supporting pet owners and the veterinary community by providing

the highest level of animal emergency and specialty care.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be compassionate with the ability to adapt to the needs of the clients within the various services. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work well within a highly functioning team.

About You

Delivery of general anesthesia will be a large and critical portion of the position, along with performing advanced technical skills (ie using CRI’s, anesthesia ventilators etc). Anesthesia support will be provided by a full-time anesthesiologist. Other responsibilities include (but are not limited to): patient treatments, starting client appointments, collection and running or submitting of blood samples, dental radiographs, as well as maintaining timely and accurate patient records. Familiarity with taking dental radiographs, dental charting

and performing dental hygiene procedures is an asset but not required; training will be provided as required.

Schedule: The schedule for this position will be a combination of 4 x10.5 hour shifts Monday-Thursday. There is an expectation you will rotate on call with the other RVTs in the service to provide weekend and evening emergency coverage. Applicants must be a registered AHT with experience in the veterinary field and be eligible for registration with AAAHT in Alberta.

About Us

The caseload in this service is dynamic and complex. Dr. Campbell is the only Board Certified Specialist in Dentistry & Oral Surgery in the province of Alberta. We serve as the major centre for oral and maxillofacial trauma in southern Alberta and frequently interface with the Critical Care and Emergency Service to provide patients with the best care possible. We provide specialist referral dentistry to patients, including routine exodontics, complex exodontics, endodontics, orthodontics and provide treatment for medically compromised and high-risk patients. We serve as the major referral hub for oral and maxillofacial surgical oncology in the province and work closely with the Oncology Team to provide comprehensive care to cancer patients. Other conditions we treat include salivary gland disease, oral medicine, perform advanced imaging in the head and neck, among others. It’s never a dull day, and we don’t just clean teeth!
